On Day 1 you will be picked up at the Quito Airport. Discover the city on Day 2 on a self-guided city tour and visit the equator line. On Day 3 you will transfer to Isinlivi, taking a walking in Cotopaxi National Park along the way. Trek to Chugchilan on Day 4 and see the Quilotoa crater lagoon on Day 5 before taking a private transfer to Banos. Discover Banos with an action-packed day full of mountain biking, zip-lining, and rock climbing on Day 6. Take a bus to Riobamba on Day 7, visit a cheese factory, and head to the La Esperanza community to have dinner with a local family. Enjoy a panoramic hike on Day 8 before travelling to Guamote, where you will take a self-guided tour. Take a bus to Cuenca on Day 9 and discover the city with a scavenger hunt and hop-on hop-off bus tour on Day 10. Take a bus to Guayaquil on Day 11 and end your trip on Day 12 with an airport drop-off.
Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Quito Airport Pickup
After being picked-up from the Mariscal Sucre International Airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation in Quito, where you will spend the night.
Day 2: Quito Self-Guided City Tour & Mitad del Mundo (B)
Today you will receive a Quito walking tour on paper, this way you will get to See Quito’s must see sites at your own pace. Visit impressive churches, walk through the streets of the historical centre and taste the typical Ecuadorian fruits in the biggest market in Quito on this self-guided adventure. After this cultural experience, jump on a bus with your included hop-on and hop-off pass and enjoy the ride to the Mitad del Mundo Monument site, where you can take photos while half of your body is in the Northern Hemisphere and the other half is in the Southern, amazing, right?! After this adventurous day you will be transferred to Quito and dropped-off at the city centre from where you can make your own way to your accommodation. Overnight in Quito.
Day 3: Private Transfer to Isinlivi & Cotopaxi National Park Walk (B/D)
Today you will be privately transferred to Isinlivi, making a stop along the way at the Cotopaxi National Park, where you will walk through the paramo to admire the majestic Cotopaxi Volcano. Overnight in Isinlivi.
Day 4: Trek Isinlivi to Chugchilan (B/L/D)
Today you will take a beautiful and strenuous hike from Isinlivi to Chugchilan through the beautiful Paramo landscape. You will walk with a local guide and a horse to carry your day pack. Your bigger luggage will be brought to your next accommodation separately. Along the way you can enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the many beautiful spots you will encounter. Overnight in Chugchilan.
Please note the Isinlivi to Chugchilan hike is a 6-7 hour walk that crosses a canyon, be prepared for ups and downs during your hike, also please consider the altitude (the highest altitude is of 3800m and the lowest is 3500m) may affect your performance and make the hike more challenging. Most of our guests from 35 to 55 years old complete this hike easily.
Day 5: Quilotoa Crater Lagoon & Private Transfer to Banos (B)
Today you will visit the Quilotoa Volcano’s stunning turquoise crater lagoon for a hike. Enjoy incredible views from this breathtaking place before being privately transferred to Banos. Upon arrival please make your own way to your accommodation for check in and enjoy some free time to explore on your own. Located in a valley surrounded by rivers and beautiful waterfalls, this small town in the Andes is the perfect destination for adventure travelers. Overnight in Banos.
Day 6: Self-Guided Mountain Bike Scavenger Hunt, Zip-Lining, and Rock Climbing (B)
Today you will explore the amazing surroundings of Banos by going on a scavenger hunt by mountain bike. The hunt includes questions and tasks, leading you on a route along amazing waterfalls. A zip-lining experience is also included this day, after having completed the hunt. Together with a walk over a picturesque Tibetan bridge to go rock climbing over the pristine river before being transferred back to Banos.
Day 7: Bus Banos to Riobamba, Cheese Factory Visit, & Meal with a Local Family (B/D)
This morning you will take a bus from Banos to Riobamba. At 1pm you will be brought in private transport from Riobamba to the La Esperanza community in the Chimborazo area. An English-speaking coordinator will give a brief explanation of the daily life in the community. At 3pm you will have a little cheese tasting in a local cheese factory. Enjoy dinner with a local indigenous family in their home.
Day 8: Morning Hike, Private Transfer to Guamote, & Tasting Local Life Self-Guided Tour (B/L)
In the morning you will enjoy breakfast at the house of an indigenous family. Afterwards a local Spanish-speaking guide will take you on a hike (approx. 3 hours) to a spectacular viewpoint, from where you can see different volcanoes in the area. At 12pm you will be brought in private transport to Guamote, where you will have lunch at your accommodation. Afterwards you will explore the indigenous town of Guamote on your own, with the help of the Tasting Local Life self-guided tour guidelines. Get in contact with the locals to learn more about this amazing town and its culture.
Day 9: Bus to Cuenca via Alausi (B)
Today you will continue your journey, with a private transfer to Alausi and a bus to Cuenca. Your driver will help you to buy a ticket (bus ticket included). Overnight in Cuenca.
Day 10: Cuenca Scavenger Hunt & Hop-On Hop-Off Tour (B)
Today you will explore the colonial city center of Cuenca by going on a scavenger hunt. The hunt includes questions and tasks that lead you to the town’s must-see places. For today you will also receive a day pass for Cuenca’s hop on/off bus tour. Overnight in Cuenca.
Day 11: Bus to Guayaquil (B)
Today an English speaking assistant will help you to buy a ticket to Guayaquil at the local bus station (bus ticket included). Upon arrival in Guayaquil, please make your own way to your accommodation to get checked in. enjoy the rest of the afternoon to relax, explore, and get settled in. Overnight in Guayaquil.
Day 12: Guayaquil Airport Drop-Off (B)
Today your Ecuador adventure comes to an end with a drop-off at the Guayaquil airport in time to catch your outbound flight. We wish you happiness and health for your journey onward.
