On Day 1, get picked up at the San Jose airport. On Day 2 take an early morning transfer to Tortuguero National Park, where you will embark on boat rides and walks on Days 3-4 to see pristine flora and fauna with a local guide, such as frogs, lizards, sloths and birds. Transfer to La Fortuna on Day 4 with free time on Days 5-6 to take an optional Arenal Volcano & Baldi Hot Springs tour. Transfer to Monteverde on Day 7 with free time for optional ziplining, horseback riding or other activities on Days 8-9. Transfer to Manuel Antonio on Day 10 with free time to explore the National Park and beaches on your own on Days 11-12. Finally, return to San Jose on Day 13 and transfer to the airport after check-out on Day 14.
Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: San Jose Airport Pick-Up
After being picked up at the San Jose Airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation for check-in. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure to relax, explore, and get settled in. Overnight in San Jose.
Day 2: Shuttle & Boat to Tortuguero (B/L/D)
This morning you will board a shuttle that will take you to the beautiful Tortuguero National Park. As you travel to this wonderful part of the country, admire the many tropical plantations and the exuberant green vegetation that surrounds you. Along the way we will provide you with a brief introduction to the banana plantations.
Arrive at your accommodation in Tortuguero around noon for check in. Enjoy some time for lunch and to get settled in. After lunch you may go on an optional walking tour of the Museum and the town to learn about the local culture (not included). Depending on the season, tonight you can also participate in an optional night tour (not included), which consists of a boat trip to Tortuguero National Park followed by walking on the beach to observe the nesting of the Giant Green Sea Turtle (available only from July to October). Overnight in Tortuguero.
Day 3: Tortuguero National Park Boat & Walking Tour (B/L/D)
Wake up early this morning to go on a guided tour of Tortuguero National Park. At 5:30 your guide will take you by boat to one of the most enchanting sites in the region, where you will explore lagoons and hidden canals and see nearly 50m-tall trees covered with bromeliads, vines and orchids, as well as an array of other flora and fauna. Spot animals such as howler monkeys, white face capuchins, and spider monkeys, as well over 400 species of birds, iguanas, jesus christ lizards and more!
Return to your accommodation by 8:00am to enjoy breakfast and recharge for the second part of today's tour, a hike through the rainforest. At around 9:30am you will go on a walk through the national park, discovering local plants and spotting wildlife with the help of your guide.
Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure to relax at your lodge or discover more of the town on your own. Overnight in Tortuguero.
Day 4: Tortuguero National Park Boat Tour - Boat & Shuttle to La Fortuna (B)
Rise early again this morning to go on a boat tour to visit other areas of the park and admire even more breathtaking nature. Return to your accommodation for breakfast and check-out. Make your way to the dock ‘Muelle los Almendros’ at 8:45 am, and get your ticket, reserved under your name. Arrive at the La Pavona dock, where our driver will be waiting to take you to the beautiful town of La Fortuna, home of the impressive Arenal Volcano. After checking into your new accommodation, enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure in this magical place. Overnight in La Fortuna.
Days 5 & 6: La Fortuna Free Days
Enjoy two free days in this breathtaking area to get out and explore or relax in paradise. La Fortuna is one of Costa Rica’s adventure centres with many different tours available, including river rafting, mountain biking, horseback riding, and, most famous of all, the hot springs of Arenal Volcano. Overnights in La Fortuna.
Day 7: Shuttle La Fortuna to Monteverde
Today you will get on a shuttle around 8:30am to be transferred to your accommodation in Monteverde. After checking in, relax in the breathtaking natural beauty of the cloud forest. Overnight in Monteverde.
Days 8 & 9: Monteverde Free Days
Enjoy free time to visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. There are many optional activities available here, including one of the world’s longest zip-line systems. Other activities include horseback riding, bungee jumping, a sky walk, a butterfly sanctuary, or a guided walking tour through the reserve. Overnights in Monteverde.
Day 10: Shuttle Monteverde to Manuel Antonio
Today you will be picked up around 9:00 am to travel to Manuel Antonio National Park. Check into your new accommodation and enjoy the rest of the at your leisure to relax by the tranquil white-sand beaches and turquoise-coloured bays in this pristine national park. Overnight in Manuel Antonio.
Days 11 & 12: Manuel Antonio National Park Free Days (2B)
Manuel Antonio is perhaps the most popular national park in all of Costa Rica, attracting more than 160,000 visitors annually. You'll see why when you discover the park's tranquil white-sand beaches along the turquoise-coloured Pacific Ocean, secluded by mangrove swamps and rainforest. Enjoy your time exploring the charming town or walking along the trails that lead you through this majestic forest. Day 13: Shuttle Manuel Antonio to San Jose (B)
Enjoy the morning at your leisure before saying goodbye to this slice of paradise. At approximately 1:00pm, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Manuel Antonio to return to San Jose, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation. Overnight in San Jose.
Day 14: San Jose Airport Drop-Off
It is time to say goodbye to this beautiful country. After check-out you will be dropped off at the airport for your departing flight.
