Begin your journey with a Puno accommodation pick-up that takes you to your kayaking ride along the shores of Titicaca from Puno to the Uros floating islands on Day 1. Take in the famous views of the lake on Taquile Island on Day 2 before transferring back to Puno. Following two bus transfers (Puno - Copacabana - La Paz) you will arrive to La Paz where you will relax and spend the night on Day 3. Day 4 is action-packed with a scenic yet adrenaline-filled ride down the Most Dangerous Road before transferring back to La Paz. Your trip ends after check-out on Day 5.
Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Accommodation Pick-Up, Kayak from Puno to the Uros Floating Islands & Amantani Homestay (L/D)
Early accommodation pick up around 7:00 am for transfer to the shores of Lake Titicaca where you will meet the tour guide who will give you a security briefing and basic paddling instructions. Enjoy the views on your kayak ride along the Titicaca National Reserve as you make your way to the Uros floating islands where you will have time to visit two of the many floating islands. After this visit you will continue on with a boat ride to Amantani Island where your host family will welcome you and invite you a traditional lunch. Free time for the rest of the day to explore the island with the option of joining in on a hike at the highest point of the community about 4,150m (13,600 feet). Day will end with a traditional party organised for you which includes dinner, dress and dancing. Overnight at local family home.
Suggested Packing List: Warm and light clothing (the temperatures can change very quickly at high altitudes), Torch / flashlight, Sun Hat, Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Hiking shoes, Water bottle, Money in soles (very low Exchange rate for dollars), Sleeping bag (optional), Rain jacket / Rain poncho (rainy season from October to March), Small gift for host family to show appreciation (Cooking or kitchen materials, souvenir from your home country or children's books). Pack in a small backpack.
Island Suggestions: Sleeping arrangements are basic, you will have a private room but with a shared bathroom. All rooms are in different family homes and may vary in terms of facilities, some houses may not have electricity. Bring with you adequate amounts of water and snacks to avoid paying expensive rates on the islands. Bring enough cash to purchase souvenirs (between 5-20 soles) and extras on the islands. Remember to respect the ecology of the islands, any trash you bring in must be taken out with you upon your departure. Do not take any native plants or rocks from the island (take a picture instead).
Day 2: Taquile Island & Return to Puno (B)
Enjoy a goodbye breakfast with your host family before hopping on a boat for a visit to Taquile Island famous for the inhabitants' weaving skills and views of the lake which you will able to take during your hike to the highest point of 3,950m (12,960 feet). Explore the island and have lunch (not included) before continuing the hike and heading back for your motorboat transfer back to Puno. Overnight in Puno.
Day 3: Bus Transfer to La Paz via Copacabana (B)
Rise early and prepare for a day of travel as you make your way to your bus transfer from Puno to Copacabana and another bus from Copacabana to La Paz. Enjoy the rest of the day in La Paz where you will spend the night.
Day 4: Death Road Adventure (B/L)
A day full of adrenaline is in store for you as you embark on your adventure riding on the Most Dangerous Road (WMDR). Depart La Paz around 7:30 and make your ascent by van to La Cumbre (4,700 meters) where equipment will be checked and your guide will provide you with important safety instructions. Cruise along this infamous dirt track with a rest stop at Unduavi to fuel up on snacks and water before passing by the Curve of Death. Take in the scenery as you navigate through a lush jungle scenery down to Yolosa at (1,200 meters), where your ride comes to an end. Hop back in the van to reach Coroico, where you will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch (drinks not included) and can cool off in the pool. Relax for a while before your return transfer back to La Paz. Overnight in La Paz.
Suggested Packing List For Death Road Adventure: Warm clothes for the first half of the ride in high altitude, light clothes for second part of the ride, insect repellent, sunblock, swimsuit, towel, change of clothes & shoes for return trip, backpack with all of these items to leave in the van during the ride.
Day 5: La Paz Accommodation Check-Out (B)
