Annapurna Basecamp Tea House Trek

Day 1: Kathmandu to Pokhara

At the break of dawn, we set off from Kathmandu, journeying through winding river valleys and passing lush rice terraces that gradually reveal breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayan foothills. The 8 hour drive aboard a local tourist bus offers a scenic escape before we arrive in the tranquil lakeside city of Pokhara (830m), a city where nature and culture harmoniously intertwine. Once a quiet trading post between Tibet and India, Pokhara has transformed into a vibrant gateway to the Himalayas, renowned for its tranquil lakes, ancient caves, and mesmerizing mountain vistas. Once there, take time to unwind, soak in the serene atmosphere, and explore the charming streets of this picturesque town.

Day 2: Pokhara to Tikhedhunga (1540m, trekking time 4-5 hours)

After enjoying breakfast in Pokhara, we embark on a 1.5-hour drive to Nayapul (1,070m), the trek starting point. Crossing a suspension bridge with breathtaking views of the Modi Khola, we begin our gradual ascent, passing through lush terraced fields and mountain villages along the trail. Along the way, we pass through vibrant settlements primarily inhabited by the Gurung and Magar communities, known for their rich traditions, warm hospitality, and deep-rooted cultural heritage. Historically, this region was a vital stopover for trade caravans traveling between India and Tibet, adding a fascinating historical dimension to its charm. As the trail winds through the picturesque landscape, we arrive in the quaint village of Tikhedhunga, where we settle in for the night.

Day 3: Tikhedhunga (1540m) to Ghorepani (2750m, trekking time 6-7 hours)

The day begins with a challenging ascent to Banthanti, tackling a steep series of stone staircases that put your endurance to the test. However, as you push past this demanding stretch, the trail transforms into an enchanting path through dense rhododendron forests, where the vibrant blooms of Nepal's national flower create a mesmerizing landscape. As you climb higher, breathtaking panoramic views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre emerge, rewarding your effort. Our journey culminates in Ghorepani, a charming village whose name, meaning "horse water" in Nepali, reflects its historical significance as a crucial resting point for traders and their horse caravans. Rich in culture and natural beauty, this scenic mountain town provides the perfect setting for an overnight stay amidst towering peaks and blooming forests.

Day 4: Ghorepani (2750m) to Poon Hill (3210m) and Tadapani (2710m, trekking time 4-5 hours) We start the day with a pre-dawn hike to Poon Hill (3,210m), a gradual uphill climb from Ghorepani.

Day 5: Tadapani (2710m) to Chhomrong (2100m, trekking time 4-5 hours)

Day 6: Chhomrong (2100m) to Dovan (2430m, trekking time 6-7 hours)

From Chhomrong, we descend towards the Chhomrong Khola, then tackle a steep uphill climb through dense rhododendron and bamboo forests until we reach Sinuwa. Continuing, the trail leads us through Bamboo, where we cross multiple streams before arriving at Dovan. This lush, peaceful stretch, was built out of necessity when tourist began to visit the area. Only shepherds used to pass through here on the way to the mountain to let their sheep graze. As we rest in Dovan, the soothing sound of cascading streams and the surrounding greenery offer a tranquil retreat before we continue to higher altitudes.

Day 7: Dovan (2430m) to Machhapuchhare Basecamp (3700m, trekking time 6-7 hours)

We begin our gradual ascent toward the sacred Pujinim Barah Temple, a revered site for both Hindus and Buddhists. The trail winds through narrow valleys with steep slopes, leading us to a brief rest at Himalaya before continuing uphill to Deurali village. Along the way, we pass the striking Hinko Cave (3,139m) and cross Bagar before reaching the iconic Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700m). Nestled beneath the majestic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain), MBC serves as a historic gateway for trekkers, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Though the sacred mountain remains off-limits to climbers, its distinctive double-peaked silhouette creates an unforgettable experience for those who journey here.

Day 8: Machhapuchhare Basecamp (3700m) to Annapurna Basecamp (4130m, trekking time 2-3 hours) A short yet unforgettable uphill trek leads us along the Modi Khola tributary, weaving through breathtaking landscapes toward one of the most coveted destinations for adventurers.

As we arrive at Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m), the sheer majesty of the Himalayas unfolds towering giants like Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) dominate the skyline. As the day draws to a close, the golden hues of sunset bathe the snow-capped peaks in a mesmerizing glow, creating a moment of pure awe one that lingers in memory long after the journey ends.

From there, the adventure continues with a long, thrilling descent to Bamboo, all while reliving the magic of the morning's unforgettable views. The trail winds steeply downward, and the landscape transforms as you dive into lush, forested terrain, adding a whole new dimension to your journey. It's a day of contrasts, beauty, and discovery!

Day 10: Bamboo (2300m) to Jhinu Danda (1780m, trekking time 5-6 hours)

Day 11: Jinhu Danda (1780m) to Pokhara (trekking time 5-6 hours)

On the final day of the trek, you'll embark on a leisurely descent, soaking in the picturesque views as you make your way to Nayapul. From there, we'll board a bus back to Pokhara, a scenic two-hour ride. Once you arrive, you'll have plenty of time to unwind and reflect on the incredible journey you've just completed, all while basking in the serene ambiance of the Himalayan foothills. It's the perfect way to wrap up an unforgettable adventure.
