Bruges is a truly beautiful and charming city, characterized by many canals, small bridges, and old houses. In the past, Bruges was a very important city in Europe. In the 13th century, Bruges became part of the Hanseatic League – an alliance that dominated trade from Scandinavia to Russia. Unfortunately, in the 15th century, the harbor and river silted up, and the city lost its status as a major power. When visiting Bruges, be sure not to miss a canal tour, the Groeninge Museum, and the Memling Museum.
