In connection to Hausmann’s huge ”renovation” in the 1840s to the 1870s, that changed Paris from an medieval city to modern capital, also 2,100 km of tunnels were constructed.
Today, a sewer museum has been founded to explore the mysteries of the Paris underground. Plates, photos, films, and of course the part of the system that you can explore yourself, offers a very instructive explanation of what’s going on under the streets of Paris.
