Great Women of New York Walking Tour

Women have shaped every aspect of the city's growth since before it was founded. This tour explores the pivotal role women have played in the development of New York City and tells the hidden stories of the female pioneers whose contributions helped turn this city into a great metropolis. We begin with the story of the new matriarchs among the Lenape Indians, the original Native Americans. Then we tell the stories of groundbreaking women, including the only women to found a village in colonial America, the first woman to be wounded in battle during the American Revolutionary War, women in slavery, female suffragists, Wall Street pioneers, religious leaders, groundbreaking writers, champions of social justice, philanthropists, and 9/11 heroes.
