Travel from Dubrovnik through Bosnia to enjoy one of the most exhilarating experiences on Northern Montenegro-Tara Canyon River, Piva and Trnovačko lakes and, of course, inevitable Durmitor mountain.

Naturally rich with its high mountains, deep canyons and beautiful mountain lakes, Northern Montenegro is overflowed with natural resources. Discover people, cuisine, culture, and landscapes that make these destinations such a treasure.

What to Expect
Trek to the Lake Trnovačko, which is reachable only by foot. Experience the Tara Canyon, its river rapids on spectacular white-water rafting and understand why Tara Canyon is considered a very popular place to discover.

Relax on the shores of Lake Piva by kayaking, fishing or swimming in the largest drinking water reserve in the Balkans. Walk on the slopes of Durmitor mountain to discover the real-life in villages. Get along the Tara riverside, get back to the camp and have fun swimming on the lakeside. Stop at one of the village households and see how "kajmak" (cream cheese) or hand-knitted wool socks are made.

Itinerary

You will be picked up by your driver/guide at 07:00 in the morning at the Main Bus Station in Sarajevo, at the main entrance on the corner of the building, (Put života street, Sarajevo 71000) to travel to northern Montenegro. Along the way we make a few short stops with amazing views before arriving at Tjentište in Sutjeska National Park. From here, we travel with all-terrain vehicles towards the top of Maglić and Prijevor (1668 m).

Halfway to Prijevor at 1,280 meters above sea level, we stop at a landscaped viewpoint (about 400 m from the road through the forest), which offers an excellent view of the Skakavac Waterfall. Once back on the road, we continue our drive towards Prijevor, the starting point for the trek. It's only on foot that you can reach this incredible heart - shaped lake symbolising love. Lake Trnovačko, one of the most beautiful lakes in Montenegro, is located in the far northwest of the country near the border with Bosnia Herzegovina. The lake is surrounded by high mountains in the east, south and west, the most famous of them Maglić and Volujak. After this exciting trek, the ride continues to the Tara River campsite in Brštanovica, our accommodation for the night.

After breakfast, you're up for an exhilarating half - day rafting tour through the famous Tara Canyon in Montenegro, the deepest canyon in Europe, and the second deepest in the world after the Grand Canyon in the USA. The canyon is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage natural site and once you're here you'll understand why. 18 km of water rapids will take us through the most attractive part of the canyon on the Tara River from Brštanovica to Šćepan Polje on a ride that will last around 3 - 4 hours.

On this adrenaline - filled tour, you will see beautiful landscapes and experience more than 20 exciting water rapids that offer class 3 and 4 rapids for rafting. After some amazing rafting and a tasty lunch, we will drive to Plužine. Along the way we make a few short stops to rest and enjoy the spectacular scenery at the largest drinking water reservoir in Europe, Lake Piva and the 220 - meter high hydropower. On arrival in Plužine you have the rest of the day at your leisure.

If there’s something you’d love to do in Plužine, today is the day for it. Wander through the town, take a zipline across Lake Piva or take a leisurely walk around the scenic lake. And as the night approaches, just sit down at one of the town's restaurants for a delicious dinner!

Soak in the relaxing lakeside atmosphere before catching an afternoon bus to Podgorica. You may wish to hang around in Montenegro a little longer or explore the Balkans further after these few adventurous days with us.
