If you've ever wondered what it's like to sail through the steep canyons, where the water flows through, hiking back into time, in the heart of the Albanian Alps and Accursed Mountains, then this tour is for you. This 4-day hiking in Valbona and Theth tour is a fine combination of stunning nature, warm Albanian welcoming and tradition and folklore.
During this active 4-day tour, you will explore a good part of the Albanian North and combine different physical activities. The accommodation is traditional, family-based guesthouses where you usually get welcomed, not as a client, but as a family guest.

You will be introduced to some of the wildest parts of Albania and experience one of the most panoramic hikes in the north of Albania, on a historic trail used in centuries for trade and exchanging goods. The paddling part is mainly organized and adapted for every level of fitness and can be done by all; even if you haven't had much practice!

4 Day Tour - Hiking in Valbona and Theth

Day 1: Arrival at Tirana

Welcome to Tirana! You will be met at the airport and dropped off at your hotel. Tirana is not only the capital of Albania, but it's also the largest city with the most vibrant and lively life in Albania. It is a city characterized by its young age and the contrasts which can easily be noticed. Above all, it is the crossway of different periods of Albanian Modern History. Overnight at the Hotel.

Day 2: Sailing on Koman Lake and Hiking around Valbona

Be ready for an early start as we leave around 05:00 to drive towards Lake Koman to catch a ferry that departs at 09:00 to the other side of the lake, Fierza. Driving from Fierza to Valbona will take around 45 minutes, and will pass through Bajram Curri. Lunch break in Valbona and hiking in Kukaj, a very remote area in the Valbona Valley.

Day 3: The Big Hike from Valbona to Theth

Also known as the Big Day of the tour, we now set off on the thrilling hike from Valbona to Theth following the ancient path that the locals have been using for years. Back in the day it was only possible to travel from Valbona to Shkoder on foot, taking two full days of walking! Walking on this path, we will pass through the oldest part of the village where people are still living in their more than 100-year-old stone houses that are remarkable remnants of the past. The 18-km trek offers spectacular views of long rocky valleys and lush green forests. We will stop for lunch at one of the traditional cafés along the way. Theth will amaze us with its unique nature, history and tradition. Its symbol, the “Lock in Tower” is living proof of the past and history. Overnight and Dinner at the Guesthouse.

Day 4: Theth - Shkoder

After breakfast at the guesthouse, the Gurnas Waterfall is our next attraction, about a 45-minute walk from the center of the village. Leaving Theth behind, we will drive around 3 hours and reach Shkoder, the biggest city of the Albanian North. Lunch along the way to Shkoder. Hotel drop of in Tirana.

Accommodation

Your first night in Tirana is in a private hotel single, double or twin room. Accommodation for the rest of the tour is in family style guesthouses and cabins based on 3-4 people sharing each room. Every room/cabin has a fully equipped bathroom with a toilet and shower. Bed linen, towels and toiletries are provided by the guesthouses. If you wish to have more privacy, you can pay a single/double supplement for a private room at the guesthouses and cabins.

Local transport

All the road and ferry transportation is included. Hotel pick up and drop off is also included. Depending on the size of the group, it's a combination of private and public transportation.

Meals

2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners are included and served at the guesthouses or picnic style according to the program. Mountain Tea served with no extra charge with the Breakfast. The guesthouses are farm style houses where the locals grow their own organic products, and cook and serve delicious meals prepared following traditional recipes. You can get free drinking water from the tap or streams.
