Explore Bosnia Herzegovina, an area that is largely yet to be discovered by travellers. If they only knew what was waiting for them! On this adventure, you'll find a playground for active travellers. Spectacular limestone peaks, the beautiful Adriatic coast, amazing views, colourful wildflowers, medieval villages, and a gracious culture and people.

Start in Sarajevo, Bosnia's capital that is a fascinating mix of European and Eastern culture as well as a city famous for its nightlife. While discovering some amazing nature you will hike to ancient highland villages, raft the stunning Neretva River and kayak along the most stunning scenery in this part of Europe, Trebizat River and Kravice Waterfalls. This tour includes two UNESCO World Heritage sites, Mostar and its famous Old Bridge and Dubrovnik, "the pearl of the Adriatic".

Itinerary

Arrive in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Your tour guide will meet you in the afternoon hours for a Sarajevo walking tour (exact time to be agreed). Sarajevo is a city that is commonly associated with the siege in the 1990's, but has plenty more to offer. Join us in a journey through the past where your guide will reveal the big and small secrets of this city and introduce you to the mysticism of Sarajevo streets and alleys. The tour will take you to the main sights of the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian architecture and will show you a unique line where East meets West. Enjoy the scent of freshly made coffee, the sound of church bells and call from the minarets. Learn about the assassination that triggered the First World War and discover why Sarajevo is called European Jerusalem.

Today we set off on a day tour to Lukomir, Bosnia’s highest and most isolated mountain village, about an hour and a half's drive from Sarajevo. The traditional lifestyles of the Dinaric highlanders are still practiced here, providing a unique window into Europe’s past. Traditional dress is still worn and goes hand in hand with the more familiar signs of everyday life, such as electricity and running water. On the edge of the village, you will be treated to a breathtaking view of Rakitnica Canyon, which drops 800m below, as well as the neighbouring Obalj and Visočica mountains. We will introduce you to the villagers and you can learn first-hand how they live in this beautiful but difficult environment. Next, we hike to the Peruce Waterfall (about 40 meters tall) before returning to Gornji (upper) Lukomir. At the end of the day, you will also have the opportunity to see and purchase local handicrafts.

The Neretva River is the emerald of Herzegovina flowing over 100 kilometers from its source into the Adriatic Sea. In the upper canyon, which we visit, exists some of the most exciting rafting in Europe. Expect deep canyon walls, endemic flora and fauna, and a wild and pristine ambience that only the Neretva can provide. Our modernly equipped team are ready to guide first-timers or old pros on a wonderful whitewater adventure. The water is very calm during late summer so this is a trip doable by all. There will be plenty of swimming opportunities and small breaks for enjoying the untouched nature. Neretva river rafting is consistently rated as a highlight of many trips to Bosnia and the Western Balkans.

In the late afternoon we arrive in Mostar, town of extreme beauty and mostly known by its famous Old Bridge from the 16th century. Our accommodation is in the heart of the Old Town, so plenty of opportunities to experience it in the best way.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch

Today, after a short transfer, we will experience Trebizat river kayaking in two-seater canoes. In the part of its flow, the river branches out into several arms with plenty of exciting rapids and cascades that will leave even the experienced canoers breathless. On average it takes 3 to 4 hours from start to finish but this really depends on our stamina and preferences i.e. how often and for how long you decide to have a break to freshen up, swim or just to relax, soak up the sun and appreciate the scenery.

In the afternoon hours we can stop by a Herzegovina oasis, Kravice Waterfalls for a refreshing dip and short walk before we hit the road toward the famous Dubrovnik. In the evening hours we will visit the stunning Old Town and for those interested, explore its music scene and nightlife.

Sarajevo
In Sarajevo we stay in the Old Town at Pension Kandilj. Kandilj is a newly built accommodation, fully modern while maintaining the Eastern spirit and allowing guests to experience traditional Bosnian atmosphere. All rooms are air-conditioned, equipped with TV, direct phone line, broadband internet, bathroom and toilet.

Mostar
In Mostar we stay at Villa Fortuna, a very cosy family hotel is situated in the UNESCO protected zone a stone’s throw from the Old Town (150m). The hotel is run by the Bijavica family, with their ancestry in this area tracing back to the 16th century. All rooms are furnished with hand-crafted furniture and decorated with artifacts made by local artists. During your stay, you will have access to the garden, free WiFi and a welcome drink.

Dubrovnik
Hotel Komodor, a small and cozy family hotel is one of the oldest hotels on the Lapad peninsula in Dubrovnik and a typical example of the old Mediterranean stone architecture. Our air-conditioned rooms have charming interiors and all necessary amenities. The first floor boasts a lovely private terrace with the swimming pool and an aperitif bar. Free Wi-Fi is available at the hotel.

Transportation (8+1 minivan or 20+1 minibus) is included during the entire trip except for airport arrival/departure transfers.

Breakfast across the Balkans usually consists of bread and pastries, dairy products such as yoghurt and cheese, cereal, eggs cooked in a variety of ways, smoked meats, honey, tea and coffee, milk and juices. Breakfasts will be a choice of a warm or cold set meal. Lunch after the rafting trip is an option between vegetarian/vegan, a selection of traditionally prepared meat or grilled local trout. Drinks are only included at breakfast.
