On Day 1 take a transfer from Jerusalem (or Tel Aviv) to Jordan, where you will visit the Roman city of Jerash to see the remnants of the civilisation that once thrived here. Continue to Amman and hike to the top of the Citadel, overlooking the modern capital. Sleep at a Bedouin camp and visit the breathtaking site of Petra on Day 2, nestled deep in a desert canyon, where the ancient buildings are carved out of red stone. On Day 3, take a jeep tour through the desert to witness history carved into the sandstone walls. Return to Jerusalem (or Tel Aviv), where your trip will come to an end.
Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Jerusalem - Jerash - Amman - Bedouin Camp (L/D)
On day 1, we will get an early start as we embark on our exciting 3-day adventure to incredible archaeological sites and natural wonders. We will cross the border into Jordan at the northern Sheikh Hussein border crossing and then make our way towards Jerash, an ancient Roman city. Step back in time as you enter the archaeological site of Jerash located on a hill in the middle of the modern city with a well-preserved Hadrian’s Arch, Zeus and Artemis Temples, cardo, hippodrome and oval forum. Your guide will explain the intricacies of this intriguing ancient city created with a combination of Western and Eastern architecture over 4000 years old.
After our visit we will have a delicious traditional lunch at a local restaurant and then continue our trip to the Amman Citadel in the modern capital of Jordan. Similar to Jerash, the Citadel is perched on a hilltop in the middle of the city affording you with panoramic views in all directions, a unique experience! Learn about the strategic cultural and military importance of the citadel and understand why this city is one of the longest-inhabited places on the planet.
From Amman, we will continue our drive south to the Bedouin camp near Petra where we will arrive in time for a fulfilling dinner. Have fun talking with friends at the campfire watching the starry desert sky and listening to local music, then rest up for the night in your cozy tent and warm bed for a big day ahead!
Day 2: Petra - Bedouin Camp (B/L/D)
Get off to an early start on day 2, have breakfast and then hop back on the bus en route to the nearby archaeological site and a new seventh wonder of the world, Petra. This marvelous Nabataean city dates from 300 BC and is famous for its rock-cut architecture and intricately carved church facades nestled away deep in the Jordanian desert. The entire city was carved into the sandstone cliffs with a dramatic rose-coloured hue. Enjoy the entire day to explore the city with your guide or walk around on your own. Have lunch on site at the entrance gate. Return back to the Bedouin camp in the evening for dinner and a good night’s rest in the silence of the desert.
Day 3: Wadi Rum - Jerusalem (B/L)
On day 3, we will wake up early again and have breakfast before hopping back on the bus to reach the magnificent Wadi Rum set in unparalleled desert landscapes. Explore the moon-like landscapes of this incredible sandstone desert valley with giant cliffs and mountains by way of a 4x4 Jeep tour and learn about the various cultures who inhabited the region including the modern-day Zalabia Bedouin. After our visit we will have lunch at a restaurant in Wadi Rum, before we depart on the bus through the desert towards the border with Israel, arriving back in Jerusalem (or Tel Aviv) in the evening.
Visa Information: Jordan permits most Western countries to receive a travel visa at the border crossing. However, residents of some countries need to apply for a visa in advance. For re-entry into Israel, please ensure you are eligible for a Visa on Arrival, or have already arranged a multiple entry visa for Israel in advance. Check with your local embassy, or online.
Muslim Holidays: During Islamic Holy Days (especially Ramadan), some sites may be closed or visiting times shortened.
