You will be picked up at your Cuzco accommodation at about 3:30am for a 2-hour drive to the town of Pitumarca, where we will eat breakfast. After eating, we will continue the drive to Chilca, where your hike begins. It will take us about 3-4 hours to arrive at the astonishing Rainbow Mountain.
The Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca, is a spectacular place near the snowy Ausangate glacier. Apu Ausangate is considered sacred by locals and is one of the most important deities of ancient Cuzco. Since pre-Inca times the mountain has been a place of worship and offerings, and this tradition continues today.
On this walk you will see picturesque villages, beautiful “adobe” houses, herds of llamas and alpacas, and you will have a magnificent view of the glacier Ausangate (6,385 m / 20,945 feet). With the beauty and uninterrupted solitude, this is a spectacular journey for hikers who love a true outdoor adventure.
After spending plenty of time on the mountain to take photos and enjoy this majestic and unique natural wonder, we will descend back into Chilca for lunch. After eating, we will drive back to Cuzco, arriving around 8pm.
Please note that this hike is demanding and at high altitude. It is recommended that travellers are in good physical condition.
